Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Easy to make – This homemade garlic bread only takes about 20 minutes to make, so it’s perfect to pair with a busy weeknight dinner.
  • Customizable – Adjust the flavors as needed based on your preferences and what you’re having for dinner. You could experiment with different cheeses like cheddar or herbs like oregano or basil to switch up the flavors.

Important Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients for sourdough garlic bread including parsley, butter, cheese, garlic, and a loaf of sourdough french bread.
  • Sourdough French Bread – My Sourdough French Bread or Sourdough Discard French Bread are my favorite bread choices for garlic bread but any of my sourdough bread recipes could be used. You could even use a loaf of store-bought bread if you’re short on time.
  • Butter – I use salted butter for this recipe. If you use unsalted butter, I recommend adding in a pinch of salt.
  • Minced Garlic –  I use fresh, minced garlic in this recipe but you can use garlic powder to taste if needed.
  • Fresh Parsley – You can sub this for another herb like basil or oregano if needed. You can also use a teaspoon of dried herbs if you don’t have fresh herbs on hand.
  • Cheese – This recipe uses both mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese for a delicious cheesy garlic bread but you can use other cheeses if you prefer.

  • Every oven broil is different, so make sure to watch your homemade garlic bread closely so it doesn’t burn.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the best melt.
